Supported Functionality

Edlink's integration with Brightspace ensures smooth data synchronization for rostering, coursework, and Single Sign-On (SSO). This document highlights the core features and limitations of the integration.

Single Sign-On (SSO)

Edlink supports Single Sign-On (SSO) via Brightspace using LTI 1.3. This allows users to log in with their Brightspace credentials, providing seamless access to connected platforms.

Rostering

Edlink synchronizes key rostering data from Brightspace, including:

  • People: Teachers, students, and other staff.
  • Schools: Brightspace organizational units are synced as schools in Edlink.
  • Classes: Brightspace course offerings are synced directly to Edlink as classes.
  • Enrollments: Users enrolled in Brightspace course offerings are automatically mapped to the correct classes within Edlink.

Extended Rostering

Edlink does not currently support extended rostering models (e.g., attendance, incidents) through Brightspace, as Brightspace's API does not expose this data.

Coursework and Grade Management

Edlink's integration fully supports the synchronization of coursework and grades between Brightspace and Edlink. This includes:

  • Assignments: Assignments created in Brightspace are synced to Edlink with due dates, descriptions, and grading details.
  • Submissions: Student submissions, including multiple attempts and feedback, are reflected in Edlink.
  • Categories: Assignment categories in Brightspace sync to Edlink for better organization and grading consistency.

Enrichment with Brightspace

Brightspace can function as either a primary or secondary data source:

  • Primary Source: Brightspace provides full rostering, coursework, and grade data.
  • Secondary Source: Brightspace supplements data from another SIS or LMS, enriching class and assignment data.

Brightspace can handle SSO as either the primary or secondary source, but if the primary system also supports SSO, it takes precedence.

Primary vs. Secondary Configuration

  • Primary: Use Brightspace as the primary source if managing coursework, assignments, and grading directly in Brightspace is the primary objective.
  • Secondary: If another system (such as an SIS) holds more comprehensive data, Brightspace can be configured as a secondary source for additional class and assignment information.

Special Features

  • Deep Linking: Brightspace assignments and resources can be deep-linked, allowing users to access content directly through Edlink-connected platforms.
  • Time Zone Awareness: Time zones for schools and classes are respected during synchronization to ensure accurate scheduling and deadlines.
