About Products
You can use Edlink to control access to your product or content dynamically and programmatically. This process is referred to as licensing.
Licenses apply to three types of entities: users, classes, and schools. There are two primary strategies for licensing your product or content:
- Removing unlicensed entities: Remove entities from the dataset when they are no longer licensed.
- Using Products: Create Products within Edlink and grant licenses to entities.
Licenses cascade down to associated entities:
- If a class is licensed to a product, all users in that class will also be licensed to the product.
- If a school is licensed to a product, all users and classes within that school will be licensed to the product.
Your business model will determine the best approach. You may choose to use one or both strategies. Alternatively, you may not need to use Products at all. A valid approach is to simply filter the dataset to include only licensed entities, especially if you only offer one product. This ensures that only licensed entities can access your platform.
