What Are Data Sources
Edlink allows you to connect to a variety of Learning Management Systems (LMS), Student Information Systems (SIS), and Single Sign-On (SSO) providers. These data sources are synced with Edlink, typically on a daily basis.

Standardized Integrations
Edlink's source integrations are designed to be generic and standardized. When a school connects a data source, such as Skyward or Canvas, Edlink initiates a sync to pull a standard set of data available from that provider. This includes core rostering entities like schools, people, courses, and enrollments, as well as extended data where supported.
Because these integrations are built to support the full capabilities of the Edlink Unified API, they are not typically modified on a per-school basis to restrict data ingestion (data minimization). Modifying the ingestion process for individual sources can lead to inconsistencies and maintenance challenges.
Limiting Data Access
If a district needs to limit the data shared with connected applications for data minimization purposes, they should use Sharing Rules or Privacy Masking.
Sharing Rules act as a filter between the raw data synced from the source and the data exposed to applications. Administrators can configure these rules within the Edlink Dashboard to share only specific schools, grade levels, roles, or even individual users. This ensures that applications only receive the data they need, while keeping the underlying source integration standard and reliable.
If this option is insufficient, or if your district stores data in non-standard (i.e. custom) tables, it may be possible to produce a custom version of our plugin (if applicable). This customization can change what data we are able to receive from your SIS. Please note, we cannot guarantee that all customizations are possible and they may take time for us to implement successfully.
