Extended Data Model Overview

Standard specifications like OneRoster provide a solid baseline for rostering, but complex applications often require more granular data. Edlink’s Extended Data Model goes beyond these standards to capture the specific logistics, history, and attributes of the school environment.

Granular Student & School Context

The Extended Model provides deep insight into the student's daily life and background. Instead of basic profiles, it includes Advanced Demographics (race, gender identity, IEP/ELL status) and Detailed Relationships (distinguishing guardians and exposing permission flags like pickup rights). It also maps the school day through Scheduling (days and calendars) and tracks Behavior via disciplinary incidents.

For some SIS platforms, the model also includes Bus routes, vehicles, and stop locations, but support for these fields is more limited.

Historical Data

While standard syncs usually focus on the "active" school year to keep payloads light, the Extended Model supports Historical Data. This allows applications to retrieve past enrollments, grades, and transcripts for longitudinal analysis, provided the source SIS maintains these records and the integration type supports it.

Availability Note

Extended Data is not available for every provider. Because this data exceeds standard specifications, it is typically only available via Native SIS Integrations (e.g., Skyward, Infinite Campus). Please check our Supported Integrations page for details on which providers support Extended Data.
