Custom data fields are pieces of information that are not a part of Edlink's core data model. In plain speak: Edlink enables schools to send certain properties (e.g. first name, last name, email address) to developers, but sometimes, the information Edlink allows for isn't enough. Custom data fields allow schools to provide additional information to developers in a structured way.
Each entity (e.g. person, class) can have custom data fields. This data fields are always available in the properties section of a given entity and they can be viewed via the Edlink dashboard or requested via the API.
Setting Custom Fields
There are a few ways to set custom fields. Edlink can also import them from existing LMS or SIS connections upon request.
- Data Enrichment can be used to apply custom fields from a secondary source of data.
- Custom fields can be imported via CSV.
- Data Overrides and Transformations can be used to modify custom fields.
