Frequently Asked Questions

Can you sync grades to the SIS from a class that was created manually by a teacher?

No, Flow can only sync grades to classes that were created by Edlink. This is because Flow needs to retain a perfect mapping for classes and enrollments between the two systems in order to sync grades to the correct class.

Should I manually create assignments in the SIS?

No, you should never manually create assignments in the SIS to "mirror" assignments from the LMS. Flow is designed to push assignments from the LMS to the SIS automatically. If you manually create the assignment in the SIS, Flow will not be able to link to it and will create a duplicate assignment. This prevents grades from syncing correctly.

How long do I have to wait after my new classes appear in Google Classroom before I can begin syncing grades?

After Edlink creates your new classes in Google Classroom, you may need to wait up to 24 hours before you can begin syncing grades.

What is the delay in between entered a grade in Google Classroom and seeing it in the SIS?

Grades entered into Google Classroom may take up to an hour to appear in the SIS, however the time is usually less than 1 minute.

What happens when I archive a Google Classroom? Does it break my SIS connection?

When you archive a class in Google Classroom the roster will no longer be updated. If you unarchive a class, the roster will be updated again (within 24 hours). This does not break the grade sync between the SIS and Google Classroom. You can safely ignore Google's warning about breaking the SIS sync (their SIS sync is unrelated to Flow).

What happens if my grade assignment or grade doesn't sync? Can I force it to resync?

You can typically trigger a resync for an assignment by updating any value (e.g. the assignment title). If you need to force a resync for a grade, you can delete the grade in Google Classroom and then re-enter it.

No, Edlink only syncs grades that have been marked as "returned" in Google Classroom. This "Returned" state is the trigger for both syncing the grade and marking the assignment as "Completed" in your SIS (e.g., Veracross). Draft grades do not sync or trigger completion.

To return a grade, click the blue "Return" button in the top left corner of the assignment grading page.

How often do rosters sync to Google Classroom?

Rosters sync to Google Classroom every 24 hours. If you need to sync a roster immediately, please contact us.

Can I manually initiate a roster sync?

Please contact us to manually initiate a roster sync.

What fields are required in order to sync classes to Google Classroom?

In order to sync classes to Google Classroom, classes must have a name and at least one teacher. Untitled classes will be ignored.

What happens if a class loses its primary teacher in the SIS?

You can configure Flow to either leave the class as-is, or transfer ownership to the Google administrator.

Why aren't students removed from Google Classroom when they are dropped in the SIS?

In order for Flow to propagate removals from your SIS to your LMS (e.g., Google Classroom), the Delete Enrollments setting must be enabled in your Flow configuration. If this setting is turned off, Flow will add new students but will never remove existing ones.

Note on Manual Enrollments (e.g., TAs): Enabling 'Delete Enrollments' will remove any student or teacher from the Google Classroom class if they are not found in the SIS roster for that class. This affects manually added users such as Teaching Assistants or co-teachers. To prevent specific manual enrollments from being deleted, you can use Data Overrides in the Edlink Dashboard. By adding an enrollment override for that person and class, Edlink will treat the enrollment as valid and protect it from being removed by the sync.
