Connecting Your LMS & SIS
Connecting Flow
- To set up a connection to Flow, please click on the link here.
- First, you will be prompted to create an Edlink account (if you do not have one already).
- Once you have created an account, you will be prompted to select your data source. This is typically your SIS (e.g. Veracross).
- After you've configured your source, click the
Validite Configuration
button to ensure that the connection works properly. - If the connection is successful, you will be prompted to select your destination. This is typically your LMS (e.g. Google Classroom).
- Follow the steps to connect your LMS, and once again, click the
Validate Configuration
button to ensure that the connection works properly. - Someone from Edlink will be in contact with you to help finish the setup process.
Next Steps
After completing the steps above, someone from Edlink will be in contact with you to help finish the setup process. Here are some key questions that you'll want to consider when completing the setup process with Edlink technical support:
- Do you want Flow to be responsible for creating user accounts in the LMS?
- If so, how should we calculate email addresses and passwords?
- Do you want Flow to be responsible for updating user accounts in the LMS?
- Do you want Flow to be responsible for deleting / suspending user accounts in the LMS?
- Do you want Flow to be responsible for creating classes in the LMS?
- Is there a certain subset of classes that we need to sync (e.g. filtering by grade or school)?
- Do you want Flow to pass grades back to the SIS?
- How should Flow match existing users between the SIS and LMS, if at all (e.g. email address)?
- How should Flow match existing classes between the SIS and LMS, if at all (e.g. SIS ID)?
Testing Your Flow Connection
While this process isn't strictly necessary, it can help you feel confident that the data is flowing correctly.
Testing Roster Sync
- We typically ask the school administrator to help us identify a single teacher account to test the connection.
- We will filter the dataset down to only the selected teacher's classes and then sync their rosters to their LMS.
- We'll then ask the teacher to confirm that the classes and class rosters appear in their LMS correctly.
- Once we have confirmed that the data is flowing correctly, we can then move on to rostering the rest of the school.
Testing Assignment & Grade Passback
- Please note, you may have to wait up to 24 hours to test assignment & grade passback after rosters have been synced.
- From one of the classes that we synced in the previous step, you can create an assignment in the LMS.
- Once the assignment has been created, you can enter a grade for one of the students.
- After a few minutes, you should see the assignment appear in your SIS and the student should have a grade assigned in the SIS gradebook.
Going Live
Once you've completed the testing process, you can begin syncing the rest of your school. The initial sync may take a while, depending on the size of your school or university. Once the initial sync is complete, Flow will keep your data up to date automatically.
