Explaining Edlink Data Enrichment
Interested in improving the quality of the data exchanged between an LMS and app? Check out our data enrichment feature.
What is data enrichment?
Data enrichment gives schools and districts the option to blend the data coming from their LMS with data from a secondary source (typically an SIS). SISs typically have more complete data, so combining these systems gives apps the best of two worlds:
1) The functionality of an LMS
2) The data of an SIS
For users Edlink is able to match between the LMS and SIS, the app will have access to more detailed info, including their global role within the district, grade level, free/reduced lunch status, ethnicity, and sex.
Please note: these properties are not always guaranteed and may vary based on the SIS and our match rate.
How data enrichment can improve your data
With data enrichment, your app gets the best of both worlds: the functionality of an LMS and the data of an SIS. The app will be able to perform functions like grade passback and assignment creation – all while having more complete data. Yay!
There are two ways to enrich data.
1) Add a school’s LMS as a data source, and then add their SIS as an enrichment source in the Edlink dashboard, pictured below.
2) This method is relevant when a school or district has an SSO provider instead of an LMS.
In this scenario, the school can connect their SSO provider to Edlink, and then add an SIS source. In this case, the SIS source acts as the primary data source.
For example, a user logs into the app with their Google Classroom credentials, and the app receives their data from the SIS. Note: only rostering and SSO are available with this method.
