Scheduled Platform Maintenance
We are planning to conduct platform upgrades late at night on Saturday, March 4th, 2023. During the one hour period from 11:00pm - 12:00am Central Time, you may experience a service interruption.
Why Are We Planning Maintenance?
Typically, we perform upgrades to our platform on a "rolling basis". This means that we can update our software without any interruption to clients or end users - teachers and students. On rare occasions (such as this one) we need to perform larger changes to our infrastructure that we cannot be done on a rolling basis.
In this case, we're planning a database migration.
When Edlink first started, all of our data lived in a single region in the central United States. Now, we offer multi-region support to comply with various data sovereignty laws. We still store all non-PII data in our central US region, and we plan to migrate it to a different physical database from our US-based school data. To be clear, it will still remain in the same geographic region, but it will live on a different machine. This will allow us to scale each database independently as we continue to grow.
Who Will Be Affected?
Probably everyone, for a brief period. Our goal is to minimize the number of affected users. As such, this migration is planned for late at night on the slowest day of the week. Most of the migration will not affect core services (such as SSO), but there will come a moment when will we stop serving all API requests. Hopefully this will only last a couple of minutes. If it lasts longer, or if the migration does not go to plan, it will be easy for us to roll back and we will plan the migration for a later date.
There is nothing you need to do to your own systems and you should not notice any changes to the Edlink API after it comes back online.
